Oliphant in Trouble with Jews!

Oliphant gets in trouble with the Jews once or twice a year, but now that Greenspan is out he won't get it so much for drawing those hook-nosed "Shylock" stereotypes. As a cartoonist I don't know how you could draw Greenspan without making it look like an anti-semitic stereotype. He's a Jew right out of central casting. Is this Oliphant anti-semitic? I don't think so, but comparing Jews to Nazis is a new one. I haven't seen it before. Headless jack-booted goose-stepper with a star of David that has a comical-looking shark face attached to it? On second look, I think he must've added the shark face to make up for the fact that the guy doesn't have one. The little nub of a head or neck or whatever it is bugs me. And gee, Ollie, could you squeeze a few more metaphors in there?

Indeed, it would be impossible to "jew-down" Greenspan. I agree, I doubt Oliphant is an anti-semite but the goosestepping really is a bit much. I think he could have gotten his point across without the inflammatory imagery...or the shark head. Maybe a gefilte fish driving a steamroller with Star of David wheels?

that monster shark is totally powerless unless it's being pushed around. How does it bend down to eat children on that weird wheel?

Oliphant draws ok I guess, but he's in the label-everything-just-in-case-people-can't-recognize-the-thing-you-drew school of political cartooning, which I've always found annoying. When you draw Bush but have give him a name tag that says, "Bush", you need to draw better.

It would be really cool though if he did something like that thing Magritte did. You know, when Magritte drew that picture of a pipe and wrote under it "this is not a pipe"? Oliphant could draw Bush, and write "this is not a Bush" and it would be all post-modern and dadaist and stuff. Also kind of dirty.

Also this cartoon is really really heavy-handed.
