I Should Apologize to Art Students, but...

C'mon guys that's the way it really is. Am I right?

I went to art school. Most everyone I knew used the money their parents gave them to buy weed, then complained when they ran out of cash and didn't get their work done because they were watching a Blind Date marathon.

There seems to be two kinds of art programs: One that indoctrinates you into a lazy mindset of post-modern self-indulgent silliness. That's most of them.

The other is rare, expensive and private, and actually attempts to teach you real marketable skills, but does nothing to encourage interests beyond an enduring enthusiasm for Star Wars and video games.

Mine was somewhere in the middle, but lacked the resources to provide much in the way of real marketable skills, and the lazy self-indulgent silliness was a compelling lure that was incompatible with what skills they did provide. I graduated confused and ill equipt, with unrealistic goals and an overestimation of my talents.

And yeah, my mom bailed me out.
